How to lift a dishwasher yourself: safe methods and mistakes

Raising a dishwasher may be necessary in a variety of situations: when installing it in a new place, repairing a drain hose, replacing bearings, or even simple cleaning under the unit. However, not everyone knows that improper lifting can lead to damage to fastenings, broken hoses or displacement of internal parts. 1. When the dishwasher needs to be lifted

• 🔄 Clean the coarse filter, which is located under the bottom and becomes clogged with food waste.
• 🛠️ Check the condition of the bearings pump (a characteristic sign of a malfunction is a loud hum during operation).
• 🏡 Rearrange the car to another place (for example, when renovating a kitchen).
• 🧹 Clean the floor under the equipment - grease, mold and debris accumulate in the niche.

If required complete dismantling (for example, for transportation or major repairs), you will have to disconnect all communications: water, electricity and drainage. In this case, lifting is only the first stage of the process.

⚠️ Attention: Do not lift the car top cover — it is attached with latches and can break off. This is a common problem with models Siemens SN658X01ME and Beko DFS 05010 with a thin metal body.

2. Preparation: what to do before getting up

Before you begin, make sure that:

Can be removed to lighten the weight dish baskets and sprinklers. This will reduce the load by 3–5 kg, which is especially important for compact machines (45 cm wide). Don't forget to take pictures of the location of the parts so you can assemble everything correctly later.

3. Lifting methods: from simple to complex

The choice of method depends on the weight of the machine, the availability of an assistant and tools. Let's consider options from the most affordable to professional.

3.1. Manual lifting with an assistant

Suitable for freestanding machines weighing up to 40 kg (for example, Candy CDPH 2L952 or Indesit DIF 16T1). Algorithm:

1. Stand with a partner on the sides of the machine.
2. Squat down with your knees on the floor and grab your body from below (not by the door!).
3. On the count of three, gently lift the car, keeping your back straight.
4. Place it on a stand (table, stool) or move it to a new place.

❌ Error: If one person pulls on the front and the other pushes from behind, the door hinges can be damaged. Always lift in sync!

3.2. Use of furniture tapes

For machines weighing 40–50 kg (e.g. Bosch SMS46KI03R) will fit furniture moving belts (sold in hardware stores). Technology:

3.3. Equipment jack

3.5. Homemade device made from boards

If you need to raise the car by 5–10 cm (for example, for cleaning), knock together plank platform with sides. Algorithm:

1. Place the platform under the front part of the PMM.
2. Gently press on the back wall so that the front wall “slides” onto the boards.
3. Place another board under the back for balance.

4. Typical mistakes and their consequences

Even experienced users sometimes make mistakes that lead to breakdowns. Here are the most common:

Critical error: ignoring fixing bolts for built-in models. If you do not unscrew them before lifting, you can tear off the fastenings of the case to the tabletop.

5. Features for different brands

The design of dishwashers varies depending on the manufacturer. Here's what to consider:

• 🔹 Bosch/Siemens: Many models have adjustable legs — before lifting, unscrew them as much as possible to reduce the height.
• 🔹 Electrolux: The body often has plastic latches from above - do not put pressure on them when lifting.
• 🔹 Beko/Indesit: The bottom may be not removable - do not try to unscrew it without instructions.
• 🔹 Miele: Premium models weigh up to 60 kg - an assistant or a lift is definitely needed here.

U embedded machines (for example, Kuppersberg GSL 6840) often there additional fastenings to the tabletop. They need to be unscrewed up to lifting, otherwise the furniture may be damaged.

6. How to lower the car back

Lowering requires no less care than lifting. Follow the algorithm:

1. Make sure all hoses and wires are not twisted and did not get hit by the hull.
2. Lower the car smoothly, starting from the rear (so as not to catch the front).
3. Check level using a building level - a misalignment of more than 2° leads to vibrations.
4. Connect communications and start test cycle without utensils to check for leaks.

⚠️ Attention: After lowering, check gap between the facade and the countertop. For built-in models it should be 1–2 mm, otherwise the door will not close.

7. Alternative solutions: when lifting is not needed

Sometimes the goal can be achieved without fully raising the machine:

• 🔧 Cleaning the filter: For most models, it can be removed through the bottom of the front panel (just unscrew 2 screws).
• 💧 Hose replacement: If the drain hose is connected to the side, it can be disconnected without lifting.
• 📏 Leg adjustment: To level the machine, access from below is sufficient (use 10mm wrench).

If required engine access or electronics, you can’t do without lifting. In this case, it is better to invite an assistant or use a lift.
