You will need:

• 🧵 Fiberglass or glass mats (density 150–300 g/m²).
• 🧴 Degreaser (White spirit or Antisilicone).
• 🔧 Sandpaper P80 and P240.
• 🎨 Putty for plastic (for example, Novol Plastic).

Step by step instructions:

1. Sand the edges of the hole with sandpaper P80, remove dust and degrease the surface.
2. Cut a patch from fiberglass with a margin of 2-3 cm around the edges.
3. Apply the first coat of epoxy to the hole, apply fiberglass and saturate with resin. Repeat 2-3 times.
4. After curing (after 12–24 hours), sand the surface with sandpaper P240.
5. Apply putty, sand again and paint.

⚠️ Attention: Do not use epoxy on PVC - it can corrode plastic. For this type, only specialized glue is suitable (for example, Loctite Plastics Bonding System).

2. Soldering plastic with a soldering iron: quick repair for ABS and PP

The method is suitable for cracks and small holes (up to 3 cm) in parts made of ABS or PP. Soldering restores the structure of the plastic, making the seam almost indistinguishable from the original. The main thing is to choose the right soldering iron temperature:

• 🔥 ABS: 250–300°C.
• 🔥 PP: 300–350°C (requires a powerful soldering iron 60–100 W).

Instructions:

1. Warm up the soldering iron and clean the solder tip (use a sponge).
2. Solder the edges of the crack, slightly deepening the tip into the plastic. For holes, use a patch made of the same material.
3. After cooling, sand the seam P120 and P400.
4. Apply primer and paint if necessary.

Secret: Add to seam for strength. plastic rod (can be cut from an unnecessary part). Melt it with a soldering iron, filling the hole in layers.

3. Glue for plastic: which one to choose and how to apply

For small damage (up to 1–2 cm), it is more convenient to use specialized adhesives. But here it is critical to consider the type of plastic:

How to apply:

1. Clean and degrease the surface.
2. Fill the hole with caulk by squeezing it out of the tube.
3. Level with a spatula or your finger (with gloves!).
4. Once dry (1-6 hours), sand and paint.

Nuance: Liquid plastic DoneDeal Once cured, it can be drilled and painted, but it will not withstand stress - do not use it for bumpers.

What to do if the sealant does not hold?

If the sealant peels off, the reasons may be:

1. The surface has not been degreased (even fingerprints interfere with adhesion).

2. The sealant was applied at temperatures below +10°C.

3. The plastic was damp (for example, after washing).

Solution: remove the old layer, dry the part with a hairdryer and repeat the procedure.

5. Traditional methods: when nothing is at hand

In extreme cases, you can use improvised means, but remember: this is a temporary solution!

• 🔥 Plastic bottle + soldering iron: cut a patch from a bottle (PET or PP), melt the edges with a soldering iron and solder to the hole.
• 🧴 Glue "Moment" + fabric: Saturate a piece of tarpaulin or gin fabric with glue and stick it to the inside of the hole.
• 🧊 Ice + superglue: for small cracks in ABS - cool the part with ice (the plastic will shrink), apply glue and let dry.

Warning: These methods last from several days to a month. For permanent repairs, use professional materials.

6. Repairing holes in interior plastic: features

Dashboards, door trims and other interior parts require a delicate approach:

• 🔹 Use flexible materials (for example, 3M Scotch-Weld DP620) so that the seam does not crack due to vibration.
• 🔹 For holes near fasteners (for example, under self-tapping screws), use threaded inserts (Helicoil).
• 🔹 After repair, restore the texture of the plastic using structural paint (Motip Duplicolor).

7. Painting after renovation: how to avoid color differences

Even a perfectly repaired hole will be noticeable if you choose the wrong paint. Follow the algorithm:

1. Choose color by VIN code car (use catalogs DuPont or Standox).
2. Apply primer for plastic (Novol Plastic Primer) in 2 layers.
3. Paint the part spray gun (a spray can will give a less even layer).
4. Protect with varnish (2K varnishes more resistant than 1K).
