Until 2004, the Soviet standard of numbers was in force in Ukraine, where the number of digits could vary from 3 to 5 depending on the type of transport. For example, the old numbers looked like:

How many digits are there in license plates for motorcycles, trailers and special vehicles?

Not all Ukrainian numbers have 4 digits. The exceptions are:

  • 🏍️ Motorcycles and mopeds: format AA 123 A — 3 digits instead of four. Example: BC 456 H.
  • 🚜 Agricultural machinery: format T 1234 AA - 4 numbers, but a letter T at the beginning indicates a tractor.
