Not all products are equally effective for different tasks. For example, white spirit copes well with oil stains on metal, but can corrode plastic parts of the interior. Special attention - application method. Aerosols are convenient for hard-to-reach places (for example, body stiffeners), but have a high consumption. Liquid concentrates are cheaper, but require additional tools (brushes, sprayers). Gel forms are ideal for vertical surfaces - they do not drain.

The only product in the rating that removed 100% of bitumen stains the first time - 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner. The rest will require re-processing or mechanical action (scraper, brush).

Specialized products for the engine and engine compartment
Degreasing the engine compartment is a more difficult task than treating the body. Here we have to fight baked-on oil deposits, fuel films and road chemicals. Conventional all-purpose products are often powerless, and aggressive solvents can damage rubber pipes or the plastic engine casing.
The best results were shown by products based on citrate salts and biodegradable surfactants β they break down oil without harming seals. But the products with caustic soda (for example, some cheap domestic brands) are better to avoid: they corrode aluminum and shorten the service life of seals.

Degreasers for plastic and interior: what is safe and what is not
Plastic interior panels, door handles and dashboards require a special approach. Many solvents (white spirit, acetone) cause cracking plastic or the factory protective coating is removed, which is why the surface begins to βstickβ to your hands. Only products marked Plastic Safe or Interior Cleaner.
The best options based on test results:

Even the most expensive product will not give results if the application technology is broken. We have compiled a checklist based on manufacturers' recommendations (3M, Liqui Moly) and my own experience:

- Using dirty rags. A rag soaked in oil traces transfers dirt back to the surface. Use lint-free wipes or microfiber, which is washed after each use.
- Working in direct sunlight. Solvents evaporate too quickly before they can take effect. The optimal temperature is +18...+25Β°C in the shade.
- Application to hot parts. At temperatures above 40Β°C, most products lose effectiveness or even ignite (especially aerosols!).

Can degreaser be used to wash rims?
Yes, but only products marked Wheel Safe or Aluminum Safe. Acidic cleaners (for example, for descaling) destroy the varnish on alloy wheels. Best options: Sonax Full Effect or Meguiar's Wheel Brightener (neutral pH). From budget - K2 Wheel Cleaner, but it must be washed off no later than after 2 minutes.
How to remove silicone grease from a body before painting?
Silicone traces (for example, from polishes or protective sprays) can only be removed with specialized means: 3M Silicone Remover, Prepsol or APP Silikon-Entferner. Ordinary degreasers do not take them! Technology:
- Apply the product for 3-5 minutes.
- Wipe lint-free cloth (not microfiber!).
- Repeat processing white spirit to remove residues.
Check the result with an ultraviolet lamp - the silicone glows blue.
How to degrease aluminum parts (radiator, intercooler)?
Aluminum requires products with a pH of 6β8 and without chlorides. Suitable options:
