Preparation of necessary documents and data
Before proceeding to filling out the electronic form, it is necessary to collect a complete package of initial data. The absence of even one digit from the insurance policy or vehicle passport will force you to interrupt the process and look for documents, which can lead to a session timeout on the portal. Make sure that you have a valid passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation at hand, since the series and number must be entered exactly to the letter.

After logging into your personal account, use the search bar at the top of the page. Enter the query "Vehicle Registration". The system will offer several options, among which you need to select the “Vehicle Registration” service. Do not confuse it with services for issuing driver's licenses or paying fines.
On the page that opens, carefully read the description of the service, terms of provision and the amount of government fees. Selecting registration type and owner
The first step in the application form itself is to determine the type of registration action. You will be offered several options: initial registration, changing owner data, changing numbers or recycling. For a standard purchase of a car, whether new from a showroom or used, select the item “Execution of a vehicle identification document” or a similar one, depending on the current version of the interface.
Next comes the “Owner” block. If the car is registered to an individual, the system will automatically pull up the data from your profile. Check that your registration address and place of residence are up to date. If the owner is a legal entity, the procedure will be different and will require authorization through the organization’s digital signature. For individuals, it is important to correctly indicate whether you are the current owner or the new owner. This determines the set of fields that will need to be filled out in the following sections of the form.
Entering vehicle data
This is the longest and most critical section of the statement. Here you need to enter data identifying a specific vehicle. The fields are divided into logical groups: identification, technical characteristics and document data. An error in one character of the VIN code can lead to the fact that the car will not “get through” the database, and you will receive a validation error.
The “Vehicle Category” field is usually automatically filled with a value from the database, but it can be selected manually from the list (for example, B for passenger cars). The make and model must be indicated as they are recorded in the title. Please note that for some foreign brands the transliteration may differ from the usual one, so rely strictly on the document.
Technical parameters such as color, engine type and power are also taken from the vehicle title. If the color in the document is listed as "not specified" or "other", select the appropriate option. The year of manufacture and environmental class (Euro-4, Euro-5) affect the size of the recycling fee for new cars, but to register used cars imported before 2020, these fields are filled in after the fact.

Selecting a traffic police department and making an appointment
After successfully filling out all information blocks, the system will offer to select a convenient traffic police department for the visit. A map or list will show the available departments. You can choose any unit within the country, regardless of your registration, but registration at your place of residence is often faster and without additional checks.
Select a convenient date and time from the available slots. The calendar shows only working days and hours of reception of citizens by appointment. It is recommended to choose the morning hours at the beginning of the week, since at this time the load on inspectors is usually lower, and the vehicle inspection will be faster.
After selecting the time, the system will generate a final statement. You will be asked to download a printable form (if a paper version with your signature is required) or send the data directly to the department. In most cases, an electronic signature (tick) is sufficient, and a visit to the reception window with a paper application is not required - the inspector will see the data in his system.
Registration through State Services guarantees you service at the chosen time, but being late by more than 15 minutes may lead to cancellation of the coupon and the need to re-register.
Payment of the state fee and completion of filing
The final stage is payment of government duties. The cost of services varies: issuing vehicle registration certificates, making changes to vehicle registration certificates and issuing new license plates are paid separately. You can pay by credit card, e-wallet or mobile phone. The payment receipt is saved in your personal account and is automatically sent to the department, so there is no need to print it out and carry it with you. Is it possible to register a car without personal presence?
The personal presence of the owner or his representative with a notarized power of attorney is required. Remote registration without a visit to the traffic police for initial registration is impossible, since a physical inspection of the vehicle by an inspector is required to verify VIN numbers and check for theft.
What to do if there is an error in the application?
If the application has not yet been paid and sent, the error can be corrected by returning to the previous steps. If the application has already been accepted, but the data is incorrect, the inspector will point out the discrepancy on site.
